Collection: Annoiting Oils

The primary purpose of anointing with the holy anointing oil was to sanctify, to set the anointed person or object apart as qodesh, or "holy" (Exodus 30:29) Annoiting oil has several spiritual purposes. It can be used as  a symbol of God's power and presence and a symbol of healing and consecration in prayer, anointing oil can signify humility and dependence on God. Olive oil was the common base for biblical anointing oils and perfumes, as well as a critical part of daily biblical life, used for medicine, food, and in lamps for light. Anointing oil is mentioned dozens of times in Scripture, many times without reference to a specific fragrance.
